Welcome to our new series of chronicles covering inspiring people living life their own way while mastering the art of curating interesting and visually beautiful social feeds.
First out is our stylish friend, world traveler, kitesurfer, lifestyle blogger and influencer Johanna-Catharina, the inspiring woman behind @franksay. We met up to get hold of her best tips for editing, curating and exploring life in general.
J-C was born and raised in Varberg on the Swedish west coast. Since the year of 18 she's been more around the world than at home and a year back Tarifa in Spain became her home base. At this moment, she's exploring the magic city of Cape Town, South Africa, for her 6th year in a row.
"I visit Cape Town every year and not only for the world class kite surfing but also because it has it all - the energy, the culture, the people it attracts, the food, it's all indescribable. It's my best tip to anyone who's looking for a new place to visit, regardless your interests.
Except for Cape Town, her other two favourite destinations in the world are Tarifa, her current home base, and Western Australia. All good places for mind blowing content and kite surfing, as her feed exemplifies. But to curate an interesting feed with a good color toned outcome it takes a lot more than just beautiful places.
"I use my iPhone, my compact camera and my GoPro to capture my life. I then start to edit in Lightroom using the "auto tone" to pick up the right lightning and popping effect in the image. I then move on to the VSCO app to adjust colours and tonality. My favourite filters are the A9 and A10. To make sure it looks good in my feed I plan and preview with the Preview App. And then finally, it's ready to post, haha.
But Instagram to her is a lot more than just an app for posting photos and creating a beautiful feed.
"It has become my visual diary and also my main resource for inspiration and to keep up with new trends. It's more like an online magazine: a perfect place to get inspired, explore and keep contact with friends and people around the world without the need of long messaging. A picture with it's small caption says a lot in itself.
All the great benefits of Instagram though, there's still nothing like the feeling of getting your favourite moments into print.
"It would be such a shame to not do anything with these images that actually matters a lot. They so easily stack up on a hard drive somewhere and you rarely look at them at all. Instead I choose to print them. Already when I started to choose what images to print, all the fun began. It made me re-live all these moments and the process made me quite happy, actually. In just a couple of days they were delivered in luxurious packaging and superb quality. I'm gonna frame some, gift away some and simply store the rest in my Memory Box.
J-C is already on the move to her next windy adventure so make sure to follow this truly inspiring woman on Instagram and for the love of life, don't miss her blog. Thank you Franksay for being you and good luck on your journey! We'll follow your every (Instagram) move.
